Sports Management student Jelle Blok youngest swimming association chairperson in the Netherlands
On 16 December 2016, the members of Racing Club appointed Jelle Blok (24) as the new chairperson of their swimming association. Blok took over for Rob Schaafsma who had been filling the position on an interim basis since 2015. Jelle Blok has been involved in Racing Club ever since it was founded in 2009 and has seen this ambitious swimming association grow from around 30 members then to 268 now.
He will graduate from his degree programme in Sports Management at THUAS this month and is looking forward to his new role as chairperson. ‘I’ve really enjoyed taking on various responsibilities for Racing Club over the years. I was involved in the move of our swimming pool, ‘Het Hofbad’, to its new location and have worked my way up from trainer and organiser to chairperson. This new role is both a challenge and an honour.
Racing Club has attracted many new and very talented members since its founding. Our club is competing together with the D.E.S. swimming association under the name of ‘The Hague Swimming’ which is now ranked as a major league team. Continuing to pursue our course of innovation is an important goal. To do this, we will be relying on our professionally certified trainers as well as our younger swimmers to attract more experienced elite-level swimmers.
