Scholarships for refugees
The Academy of Masters & Professional Courses has made three scholarships available for refugees. This makes these master’s degree programmes accessible to students who have been granted refugee status.
‘Now that the economy is recovering and people and businesses are investing in degree programmes, M&PC is attracting more students,’ said Dean Clemens Berendsen, ‘and this gives us an opportunity to contribute to solving a problem facing society. Many refugees are well educated but have not had a chance to continue their education in their own country. These scholarships will now give them that chance. Initiated by one of the staff members and furthered through the contacts of another one at the Dutch Council for Refugees, developing the scholarships was not difficult.’ These scholarships are meant to give refugees with a bachelor’s degree from their own country, who have also had a few years of work experience in the Netherlands or elsewhere, an opportunity to enrol in one of the master’s degree programmes and thus increase their job opportunities. The best candidates would be talented professionals who are prepared to invest in themselves.
They must also satisfy the admission requirements, have a good command of Dutch or English, and write an essay. The selection will be made during the summer period so that the scholarship holders can start the new academic year.
The scholarships were made available on World Refugee Day, 20 June 2017.
