Marketing students raise 6,416 euros for 3FM Serious Request: Lifeline
In a record time of five weeks, 23 students of the Event Management minor organised all sorts of events to raise money for 3FM Serious Request: Lifeline. NPO 3FM and the Red Cross are saving lives through the 3FM Serious Request: Lifeline This year, funds were raised for three organisations: Reanimatie in Nederland, Bescherming tegen Natuurgeweld and Noodhulp bij Oorlog en Conflicten. Margot Walraven, project leader of 3FM Serious Request, accepted the cheque worth 6,416 euro yesterday at the TivoliVredenburg.
The amount was raised in six events that the students organised in a short time. Jesse van der Plas, one of the student organisers, says that “The life of an event manager is not always easy. We had tight deadlines and sometimes things didn’t work out, but we are very proud that we managed to organise so many successful activities for 3FM Serious Request: Lifeline.”
One of the activities was Food-for-Food at the Ichthus Church in Scheveningen. It was a benefit dinner in which the guests supported the citizens in war zones. They could choose from a menu which clearly showed how much the meal was worth and how much food you could give a family in a conflict zone. The students also encouraged the guests to think about food waste. They were served a meal made of food items that supermarkets would normally throw away but which were still of good quality.
“We wanted to raise awareness about food waste. This is an important issue in the Netherlands, while worldwide there is a great shortage of food,” says Thijs Vos, one of the organisers of the popular event. The students raised more than 1,800 euros at this event.
Theory and practice
The students of the Event Management minor once again, now for the seventh time, raised money for the 3FM Serious Request. By organising fundraising events in the area, the students put theory into practice. Six groups took on the challenge of organising an event to raise awareness for the Lifetime themes. Next to these events, The Hague University of Applied Sciences organised guest lectures with speakers from 3FM Serious Request and the Dutch Red Cross. One of the speakers was 3FM DJ Wijnand Speelman.
