Just a moment with Jason Stewart
“The scariest thing I ever did? Telling a girl that I liked her. She was a student here and when we met there was instant chemistry. Also because we quickly discovered that we both believe in God. She was from Switzerland, had blond hair and blue eyes and when i saw her I thought ‘wow!’. After a week I said “I think I love you”.
Although surprised, she did have a positive reaction. But she was supposed to return to Switzerland so it wasn’t easy. Neither one of us wanted a long distance relationship. And I found it hard to be myself around her. I don’t fall that deeply in love very often. Perhaps once every four years, I think. I behaved differently. I would think too hard about what I wanted to say before I said anything. A friend of mine described it as follows: ‘You want to be like Will Smith, but the way you behave makes you look more like Carlton.’ He was right.
I think she just wanted me to be myself. Finally I told her again that I really liked her and that I hadn’t handled it very well. She appreciated my honesty, told me she really liked me too, but we both decided: ‘It’s not gonna work out.’ Looking back, I regret the fact that I was trying to be like Brad Pitt more than the fact that I told her I loved her.”

JUST A MOMENT
Over the course of a day, you see dozens of faces pass you by – in the Atrium, on the stairs, on your way to class. Behind each face is a unique story. This series of interviews, inspired by ‘Humans of New York’, gives readers a little peek into the lives of students and staff at THUAS.
