Initial findings of Simone Fredriksz and Liduine Bremer’s job swap
It can’t have gone by unnoticed: Monday 30 September, faculty directors Liduine Bremer from the Faculty of Public Management, Law & Safety (BRV) and Simone Fredriksz from the Faculty of Business, Finance & Marketing (BFM) switched jobs for a week. A veritable job swap: they took over all of each other’s appointments, emails and tasks. Now, almost 2 weeks later, they would like to share their initial findings about this changing of the guard. But they won’t tell you too much, because all will be revealed during THiNK FeST!
What made you choose to do this job swap?
Simone: “Just because you can! We want to develop continuously and one way of doing that is by challenging yourself. We had to create the room to experiment ourselves.” “We’d already told each other that at an executive board session,” adds Liduine. At a certain point we both decided to just take the plunge! We trust each other and were also curious about how things would turn out.”
What did you gain from it?
“Confusion, surprise and deepening”, begins Liduine. “From all kinds of new ideas and confirmation of insights to genuine surprises”. Simone states it’s much more than just a job swap: “It was a metamorphosis in many ways. I stepped into Liduine’s shoes and that was both special and surprising. A wide range of experiences unfolded!” Both faculty directors are in complete agreement with each other: “It has given us so much more than we could have imagined, but we won’t reveal it all until THiNK FeST!”
How have you experienced the week?
Liduine: “Incredibly intense and confrontational. At first, I tried to be both Simone as well as myself. But after Wednesday, after dreaming of a colleague that night, I really had to let that go! From that moment on, I could be more open and enjoy it more.” “For me it was dynamic and intense,” says Simone. “No matter where you work, people are the priority. This week, it didn’t take me long to get attached to colleagues at BRV and at the same time, I was aware of how much I care about the students and staff at BFM.”
What kind of reactions did you get?
“Is that possible?”, both faculty directors shout in chorus. “Supplemented by: “Are all directors going to do this?” or: “You’ll be back, won’t you?”, Simone continues. According to Liduine, all the reactions were very positive: “Even though some were really surprised.”
What stood out at the faculty where you were director for a week?
“I saw a lot of energy and drive for innovation at BFM,” says Liduine. Simone: “The Faculty BRV has immense potential, I’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.” She continues: “Really good professionals work there. We worked well together, and I became really attached to this faculty in a very short time”.
Are you going to do a job swap like this again?
Simone: “It’s just about to begin! So, come to our presentation at THiNK FeST.”
