1000 letters written to release prisoners of conscience
Students, lecturers, politicians, and secondary school pupils came to the Writer’s Block Festival on 9 December to write letters to prisoners of conscience and government authorities. ‘These prisoners should know that the world is thinking about them’, said Sara Mehrinejad, a student and volunteer at the festival organised by Amnesty International and The Hague University of Applied Sciences. As a result of last year’s letter-writing marathon, four of the six prisoners for whom the letters were written were granted early release.
